Bill Hulbig

Cotuit Capital, LLC
Founder & Managing Partner

MicroGroup®, Inc.
Founder & Former CEO

Bill saw a company he founded sold 3 times, 3 different ways, at substantially more each time. Bill says he cannot overemphasize the importance of making everyday decisions as if your company's for sale. Sold first in 1983, he had no idea what it was worth beyond "financials and multiples", but was shocked how much more it could be worth if managed as an "investment" with a 100 days plan instead of just a "business".

William F. Hulbig is the Founder and Managing Partner of Cotuit Capital, formed in 2005 as a consulting firm and "late stage investor in early stage companies". The backbone of the enterprise is its unique 100%100 Day Plan program.

Cotuit Capital assembled a horizontal portfolio of six diverse companies in less than a year. Hulbig serves on four of the Boards and is the CEO at one of our investments.

Although Bill is a mechanical engineer (BSME, Stevens Institute of Technology), he is best known for applying "engineering" analysis techniques to sales, marketing, and strategic planning, in the fields of technology, consumer products, media, and software.

He was the founder and CEO of MicroGroup from 1971 to 2005, a prominent supplier of miniature, precision, metal components for the medical device industry. He created rapid and sustained growth for MicroGroup during his term as CEO through a very unusual route - by becoming the largest advertiser in the Thomas Register of American Manufacturers. Thomas coined the phrase "Buy-An-Industry" based on Bill's results. MicroGroup was also a pioneer in applying direct marketing to high-technology contract manufacturing beginning in 1971. He sold the MicroGroup to private equity firms in both 2002 and 2005. During his 35 years, he also founded many other related and unrelated businesses and holds several patents ranging from revolutionary database indexing to high performance pedal boats.

Immediately upon the last sale of MicroGroup in 2005, Bill left the company and founded Cotuit Capital, with the intent of by leveraging his 35+ as a CEO and knowledge of the PE industry and consulting to private equity investment firms. After six months of investigation he discovered the missing piece of nearly every private equity and venture deal, the lack of the wildly touted (during negotiations), but usually non-existent (after the close) 100-day plan.

In late 2006 Cotuit Capital introduced the "100%100 Day Plan" which boasted it could double the value of a leveraged business in 100 days, or at least launch a plan doubling the value in less than a year. Sounded impossible, but Bill had just done that with the sale of MicroGroup, and the story's credibility was being promoted on the PE seller's own web site.

Bill's Plan was based on 50 years of his accumulated experiences of key people he had met during his life, including his father and several nationally prominent CEOs. He was an early member of the CEO Club's Boston Chapter where he met a fellow CEO that had a very unique philosophy on how to conduct a meeting that Bill still employs today.

After the first year of "retirement" from MicroGroup he was being referred to early stage companies that needed funding and 100-day plans. Being a true entrepreneur, he quickly invested in the most promising. Several of these investments have become successful test cases for his 100%100 Day Plans.

Due to an overwhelming number of requests, Bill has committed to conduct seminars teaching executives and professionals how to manage their time far more effectively in this crazy 24/7 world as a prerequisite to courses to design and execute their own 100%100 Day Plans.
